Early Life and Family Background

Smriti Mandhana is a 30-year-old Indian international cricketer who comes from a Marwari Hindu family. Her father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was a district-level cricketer and a chemical distributor, while her mother was a homemaker in Sangli, Maharashtra. She attended Chintaman Rao College of Commerce. Both her father and brother played cricket at the local level. Mandhana was inspired to take up the sport after watching her brother compete in junior state-level tournaments.

Domestic and WPL Career

At a young age, Smriti Mandhana was selected for Maharashtra’s Under-15 team. By the age of 11, she had been chosen for the Maharashtra Under-19 team. In October 2013, she became the first Indian woman to score a double century in a List A (one-day) match. During the 2016–17 Women’s Challenger Trophy, Mandhana scored three half-centuries in as many matches for India Red.

Mandhana has represented Maharashtra in domestic cricket. In the inaugural WPL auction in 2023, Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed Smriti Mandhana for ₹3.5 crore, making her the highest-paid player in the auction.

International Career

In 2013, Smriti Mandhana made her Women’s One Day International (WODI) and Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) debuts for the India women’s national cricket team. On 13 August 2014, she made her international Test debut against England.

Mandhana, at just 22 years old, became the youngest-ever T20I captain for India. She scored 1,703 international runs across formats in a single calendar year, breaking Belinda Clark’s 28-year-old record for the most international runs scored by a woman in a calendar year.
